The Schneider’s certified organic dairy farm is located an hour east of Montreal in Glen Robertson, Ontario. Eighty five Holsteins spend April to December outdoors, which producers Myriam and Cyril say is the only way they feel comfortable raising their cows. When milking, their cows are moved indoors earlier in the season for protection from the cold.
The Schneider’s transitioned to organic production methods after being encouraged by Organic Meadow, a successful organic producer cooperative. They say that organic farming is great for their animals, for the environment, and for producers whose products are now in high demand. They sell their milk to Organic Meadow, who then transform it into a variety of dairy products that are sold throughout the region.
