While the trend in Newfoundland is to industrialize to keep up with a competitive marketplace, there are a handful of producers who are choosing to produce using alternative methods including organic crop production, and Community Supported Agriculture programs.

While no livestock producers are currently certified organic, several small scale producers provide locals with free-range poultry and eggs at local farmers markets and health food stores across the island.
