Beef Cattle

Most beef cattle operations in Newfoundland are part-time, with no more than 25 head. In 2006 there was a total of 2500 beef and dairy cattle culled, totaling $1.7 million in farm cash receipts. The majority (60%) of production is in the Western half of the province.

Challenges to expanding the beef industry on the island include high cost of land development for pasture and forage, inputs (imported grain), and competition from Western provinces.
