Animal Welfare Approved labelling

On March 23 the Animal Welfare Institute announced it had secured approval from the Canadian government to begin certifying farms in this country.

“We’re excited about expanding our program,” AWI Director Andrew Gunther said. “Americans and Canadians have a shared concern for the welfare of farm animals and protecting family farms and that is reflected in their purchasing decisions. American consumers know buying products with the Animal Welfare Approved label ensures their meat, dairy and eggs came from high welfare farms. Soon Canadians will be able to benefit in the same way.”

The Animal Welfare Institute expects to begin labelling Canadian products under the program towards the end of 2009. For more information about the Animal Welfare Institute and AWA labelling visit their website.
