Beyond Factory Farming

There are a small number of certification programs for humanely raised livestock in Canada. The BC SPCA does independent third-party inspections of the farms registered under its label to ensure they are in compliance with their Farm Animal Welfare Standards. The Canadian Coalition for Farm Animals maintains a guide to help consumers find meat from humanely-raised livestock.
