On-farm slaughter and butchering
Farmers are permitted to slaughter and butcher animals on their own farms for their own use and for farm-gate sales. Local butchers may travel to the farm to custom cut the meat for the farmer. In some areas mobile abattoirs are available. On-farm slaughter is preferred for humane reasons as animals are spared the stress of transport, but customers must travel to the farm to pick up their meat--which is not feasible for large numbers of people.
